MAKING A DONATION IN YOUR WILL

For over 25 years Aspire Living has been working with people with learning disabilities helping them to live independent lives. We currently work with 200 service users but we need more funding to help more people and provide more services. Once you have cared for your loved ones in your Will, perhaps you could think about including Aspire and helping people with learning Disabilities.

A donation in your Will, however large or small, can help make sure that Aspire Living can continue to provide specialist support services to people with Learning Disabilities in Herefordshire for years to come. Your gift will make a real difference to lives of people with Learning Disabilities.

Should you choose to leave a gift to Aspire Living it's easy to organise - just let your solicitor know your intentions when you make your Will or, if you have a Will already, you can add a short legal statement known as a Codicil to update your wishes.

Should you wish to include Aspire in your Will the following suggested wording examples will help you.

For a residuary legacy: I give ….% of the residue of my real and personal estate to Aspire Living, Registered Charity Number 1024904 of Suite 4, Penn House, 9-10 Broad Street, Hereford, HR4 9AP and I direct that the receipt of the treasurer or other proper officer shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my executors.

For a pecuniary legacy: I give the sum of £…… to Aspire Living, Registered Charity Number 1024904 of Suite 4, Penn House, 9-10 Broad Street, Hereford, HR4 9AP and I direct that the receipt of the treasurer or other proper officer shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my executors.

PROJECTS AND SERVICES THAT NEED FUNDING
Fundraised income has helped start new services, provided income to support services during difficult times, capital funding for developments, funding to enhance our services and to deliver training to our services users.
The need for funding has never been greater. Demand for services are increasing - the number of people with learning disabilities is expected to increase by 19% by 2015 but funding available is decreasing.
Work Right
Work Right is our employment programme and provides one to one support, tailored to the needs of the individual. It also provides post employment support through volunteer job coaches.
Funding situation: This service was started with fundraised income and supports people with learning disabilities into employment (paid and voluntary). There is a charge for the service which individuals can purchase through their personal budgets but not everyone is eligible and funding is needed to support those with no means of paying for the service.
Examples of funding needed:
• £17 will fund one hour pre employment training for one service user
• £6,000 will fund an employment facilitator for one year
• £1,250 for fund costs for a volunteer job coach
Youth Club
It is the only youth club for people with Learning Disabilities in the county and opened in the summer of 2012. Members are aged between the ages of 14 and 21. It is open every Thursday evening at the Tan Brook Centre in Hereford.
Funding situation: The youth club was started with fundraised income. It is partly funded through membership fees but this is not enough to cover all the running costs and to pay for outings and special events.
Examples of funding needed
• £150 will fund one membership for a full year
• £250 will fund one outing
• £16 will fund the venue for one evening
Monday Club
The Monday Club is a social club for adults with Learning Disabilities. There are over 100 members and the members run the club with the support of Aspire staff.
Funding Situations: This was at risk of closure in 2011 when the Council withdraw all its funding but fundraised income provided a breathing space for a rescue package to be implemented. The club is now self sustaining through membership fees but funding is still required for special activities and outings.
Examples of funding needed:
• £30 will fund the hire of the venue for the day
• £250 will fund one outing
• £75 will fund a special event like Halloween
Training for Adults with Learning Disabilities
Many people with Learning Disabilities are not able to access college courses. We provide a range of courses to support independence like money management and how to keep fit and healthy
Funding Situations: Some training courses are funded through grant funding but the funding requires minimum attendance on a programme of courses. Funding is therefore required for ad hoc courses like sexual health, adult safeguarding
Examples of funding needed:
• £70 will fund one 10 hour course for one service user
• £295 will fund training in ‘Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector’ for one member of staff
• £3,600 will fund one part time training instructor

Aspen House and Bungalow
This is a small development of 6 flats (6 x 2 bed and 3 x 1 bed) and a three bed bungalow for people with Learning and Physical Disabilities. Construction is due to start 2013.
Funding Situations: This development will cost £843,450 (£150,700 for the bungalow and £692750 for the flats) £511,725 has been secured to date leaving a balance of £331,725.
Examples of funding needed: Donations are welcome towards the overall costs or alternative specific elements can be funded. More examples are available.
• £5,000 will fund assisted technology in one flat
• £3,500 will fund one kitchen
• £30,000 will fund new incoming services
Tan Brook Centre
This is a new build replacing two existing buildings – a day centre for older people with learning Disabilities and former offices of a charity. The current buildings were constructed in the 1960s and no longer meet the needs of our service user. The new building will include activity and training rooms, offices and meeting rooms, a cafe, a music room, a sensory room, a training kitchen and other facilities. This project is still under development and will include a number of voluntary organisations. The cost of this development is estimated at £1.2 million. Full details will be published when plans have been finalised.
Markyes Close Residential Care Home, Ross on Wye
This is currently two residential care homes, managed as one unit, for eight people with learning disabilities. Plans are in place to join the two buildings into one home and increase the number of bedrooms. The home will be developed into a centre of excellence for Older People with Learning Disabilities and Aspire will be working on this with the British Institute for Learning Disabilities (BILD). It will be the first specialist home in the county, and we believe in the region, and will meet an urgent need for specialist provision that is not being met. People with Learning Disabilities are living longer and the numbers will double in the next 10 years. This is a two phase development because some of the current residents cannot be moved.
Funding situation: Phase one will cost £169,800 and funding is in place for this. Funding is required for phase two which is due to start June 2013 and £50,000 is required towards the total cost of this phase £198,136.
Examples of funding needed: More examples are available if you are interested in supporting this development
• £4,000 will pay for the kitchen to be remodelled
• £8,000 will pay for one bathroom to be remodelled
• £700 will pay for an adjustable dining ‘table’ for a wheelchair user
• £1,500 will pay for a new range cooker
• £900 will pay for equipment in the new sensory room
• £19,000 will pay for service development work over 18 months
Old School Lane Residential Accommodation, Hereford
Old School lane is home to 4 people with a learning disability. They all have their own tenancies and lead, with the support of Aspire staff, independent lives. They have a small back garden which they would like to use and enjoy but they need some help to make it more accessible.
Funding situation: All the tenants are unwaged and do not have any spare money to spend on the garden. £9,500 is needed for landscaping 9including hard landscaping), planting and garden structures.
Examples of funding needed:
• £1,300 will fund a patio area and all paving
• £720 will fund raised planting areas and plants
• £1,000 will fund handrails and railings
Online Centre at Tan Brook, Hereford
The online centre is open to people with Learning Disabilities and the local community. An extensive range of training programmes is available free of charge. The centre is open one day per week and is run by volunteers.
Funding situation: Aspire receives no funding for this service and requires £70 per day to run the service.
Examples of funding needed:
• £145 will fund volunteer expenses for a year
• £800 will fund Broadband for a full year
• £500 will fund IT support for a year

COMMUNITY FUNDRAISING
Getting involved in fundraising can be fun and very rewarding particularly when you are able to see the impact your contribution has on the lives of the people we work with. There are many ways in which you can support Aspire. Here are just a few ideas
‘Friends of’ Fundraising Groups
There are some services and projects which rely totally or heavily on fundraised income. You may therefore want to be part of a fundraising group supporting, for example, the Monday Club (Social club for adults with Learning Disabilities), The Youth Club or our Tan Brook Centre for Older People with Learning Disabilities.
Organise a fundraising event
If you would like to organise a fundraising event on behalf of Aspire, we are here to support you. We can help with literature, advertising, ticket sales, collecting tins, volunteers and even ideas.
Sponsored events

Participating in sponsored events is a good way of raising money. These events provide an opportunity to do something different and exciting and at the same time raise money to support our work. Some sponsored events include abseiling, marathons, sky diving etc
Company Support

Many companies have a policy on Corporate Social Responsibility and support staff volunteering and fundraising. Some companies may match like for like any fundraised income staff raise, or they may adopt a charity for fundraising based on the recommendation of their staff. Ask your company for their policy.

If you would like information on Aspire and the projects that need funding, or you would like more information on any of the above please contact Richard Dudley on 01432 269406 or email richard.dudley@aspirechoices.com
