History and development
Aspire was formed in the mid 1980s in response to Care in the Community, when there was a need for local services for people with a learning disability following the closure of long-stay institutions. Since then Aspire has continued to develop and grow, responding to the needs of individuals and government policy.
Keeping up with national trends and reforms in social care has played an important part in Aspire’s development: Valuing People: A new strategy for learning Disabilities in the 21st century is based on the principles of independence, choice and inclusion which also underpin Aspire’s work.
The introduction of Supporting People in 2003 provided Aspire with an opportunity to develop a new service providing housing related support for people living in their own homes.
More recently Valuing People Now, Our Health, Our Care Our Say and the government’s personalisation agenda have served to frame Aspire’s direction over the next three years.
Over the years Aspire has grown to become a leading provider of services for people with a learning disability across Herefordshire. We have a track record that we are proud of, and current awards to show that we deliver excellent services. Click here to find out about our quality standards.
